Yoga for Anxiety Course (3 hours, online)

About the course:

Anxiety can manifest physically in the body, in a variety of ways. Gripped toes, digestive health challenges, tight hip flexors, respiratory system difficulties, sleep health challenges…  It can leave us feeling constantly fearful, and we may get the sense that we often over-analyze and spend a lot of time thinking through worst-case scenarios. Anxiety is an incredibly hard, and pervasive set of feelings and experiences to live with. It affects all areas of our life, our relationships, our work, our physical health and even the dreams and goals we have for ourselves.

Yoga is often recommended as a helpful way to manage anxious thoughts and feelings. Mindful movement paired with breathwork can support us in returning to the present moment, and releasing anxious thoughts. And while this is true, yoga is a wide-ranging approach and not all yoga is necessarily effective with anxiety management.

Flow of the course:

  • A thoughtfully designed theory class. We will meet for 1h30 to gently explore anxiety, the difference between normal anxiety and anxiety disorders, and what academic and anecdotal research shows us is most effective in utilizing yoga to manage anxiety. We are hopeful that this will be an excellent resource to those that struggle with anxiety, as well as those that support clients with physical and mental health challenges related to anxiety.
  • A gently facilitated practical class. We will meet for 1h30 to practically experience the yoga for anxiety we have learnt about in our theory class, and have a final Q&A session to close out the course. We can’t teach or facilitate what we don’t know, so we believe this will be an important way to integrate the learning for both participants looking for support and those looking to learn tools to support their clients.

Whether you identify with wanting to utilise yoga for anxiety, work with others who are struggling with this, or are just simply curious about the topic – you are more than welcome to join us.

We will be moving gently, carefully and there is no expectation for you to partake in every movement. A healing journey is also choosing what feels most nourishing to you. You are more than welcome to opt out at any stage, and simply observe.
