Over the pregnancy, birth and first year of my daughters life, I became even more convinced of the powerful and much-needed foundation yoga therapy set for me as a new mom. It allowed me to connect with my daughter in mindful, responsive and meaningful ways. On super challenging days, I knew how to breathe. I knew how to self-regulate. And I knew how to maintain my compassion with not just my daughter and husband, but with myself too. My aim wasn’t perfection, because that’s not what yoga taught me. It taught me how to traverse one of the most exceptionally challenging changes in my life with presence. Patience. And bucketloads of kind self-talk.

It has supported me in approaching parenthood in a way I am proud of. And in ways I can see reflected back at me in my little girl and her growing personality and heart.

This is what I aim to share with you in our 6 weeks together. I understand, deeply, the unique emotional landscape of motherhood. The highs and the lows, the relationship changes, the self-esteem knocks, anxiety, hormone swings and the ongoing questioning that can leave us all cycling through doubt. This is normal. And there’s a way to traverse it with a bit more peace in your hearts, and a bit more of your sanity in tact.

About your host: Candice Clark (your host) is a licenced counsellor and yoga therapist that that specialises in trauma and mental health. She has worked with numerous individuals and on group therapy programs in South Africa and internationally, supporting the recovery from psychological trauma. She has recently completed her Masters thesis on trauma-sensitive yoga in the South African context. She trains and mentors local psychologists, counsellors, healthcare practitioners and yoga teachers on her signature methodologies, as well as leads supervision groups and one-on-one supervision for counselors and practitioners.
