Welcome to our webinar workshop: supporting miscarriage and pregnancy loss survivors

Surreal. Devastating. Deeply heart-breaking. Insurmountable. Final.

These are some of the feelings that survivors of miscarriage and pregnancy loss wrestle with and use to describe this immeasurably painful experience. Losing a pregnancy is losing a baby, and losing a baby often represents a multitude of losses – loss of dreams, milestones, relationships, direction and purpose, and a previously unquestioned trust in our bodies. Miscarriage and pregnancy loss rips through the daily experience of survivors in a way that is hard to comprehend. It permeates every experience that comes thereafter. Baby showers are different, planing futures are different, birth and death anniversaries are different, relationships with other children and parents are different and our relationships with our bodies and spiritual faith are forever changed.

Surviving a miscarriage and pregnancy loss is as serious as it sounds, survival. Not only are there often physical health complications, suicidal thoughts and ideation are not uncommon for those that have traversed this life experience. Deeply difficult mental health chapters and post-traumatic stress experiences in the wake of this traumatic experience are normal and to be expected.

This is a specific population of trauma survivors that often experiences insensitive mental and physical healthcare that is not trauma-informed. In my private practice, working with miscarriage and pregnancy loss survivors, some of the most difficult experiences described by these clients is the lack of mindgul and compassionate care in the wake of their hugely painful loss. This is avoidable. There are better, infinitely more sensitive and trauma-informed ways to support this population of trauma survivors, so that we are better equipped to facilitate deep, integrative and holistic healing. If you are interested in supporting this incredibly brave, special and often increasingly isolated population of trauma survivors, I’d love for you to join me in this upcoming webinar workshop.

We are going to be covering:

  • Validating and acknowledging loss in a trauma-informed way.

  • Supporting the surfacing and containment of grief.

  • Understanding the mind-body connection of grief and how we can facilitate the expression of this in nourishing, healing ways.

  • How to invite redirection into self-care, and reconnection with the body (in a way that does not overwhelm the nervous system and coping resources).

  • The combination of talk and somatic therapy techniques to holistically support miscarriage and pregnancy loss survivors.

  • Identifying complicated grief and the development of clinically significant mental health symptoms that require referral.

  • Sensitively approaching post-traumatic growth and the transformation of pain in a way that is encouraging, supportive and trauma-informed.

  • Partnering with clients in the rebuilding of gentle, sensitive self-confidence and the dreams and relationships that may have been damaged by the loss.

This will be a live theory class (via the Zoom app). Further workshop info and relevant links will be provided on email. All counselors, mental health professionals, birth and reproductive health workers, as well as the simply curious are welcome to join us!
