Pioneer in the field

“Learning, in detail, about trauma-sensitivework. Even though yoga focused it could be extended into all other group work too. Also mindfulness. Learning what does it mean to be trauma sensitive and experiencing it first-hand with Candice. Wow! Truly transformational. Authentic. Effective. Experiential. Informative. Cutting-edge. Trustworthy. We need more of you!”

– Nicole Mansour (TSYFT 2024 graduate)

Equipped to help trauma survivors

“You will feel so grounded, supported and challenged in the best way! Candice is a nourishing teacher and space holder. I really appreciated that she allows us to be ourselves and be in our truth. I am able to now help people deal with trauma in a non-verbal way.”

– Boitumelo Makgabo (TSYFT 2024 graduate)

Powerful addition to psychology training

“It has laid a great foundation for me to build upon in terms of incorporating the body into the different healing modalities that I have been taught in the mainstream psychology field. I really enjoyed Candice’s way of delivering content and the way she makes you feel as if you are on the right track through encouragement and positive reinforcement is wonderful.”

As a licensed counselor and yoga therapist that specialises in trauma and mental health, with a strong public health background, it’s important to me that this training is evidence-based, experiential, accessible and rooted in local context.

        Evidence-based

This training progam is and will continue to be informed by current and world-class academic research in trauma, trauma-recovery and somatic approaches to trauma for children, teens and their families. Not all trauma-sensitive yoga is created equal, and it’s important to study those methods proven in research and clinical trials to be safe and effective for trauma survivors. We ensure we do no harm in this way.

        Experiential

It is hard, if not impossible, to facilitate from a place of little lived experience. It is for this reason that this training program also has a strong component of self-reflection, and practical hours training (personal and facilitation practice). This is a training program that will teach you about yourself too, and promote your own personal growth. From this foundation, you are able to start facilitating highly effective, evidence-based trauma-sensitive yoga for children, teens & their families.

        Accessible

We appreciate the difficulty some students may face in traveling to and attending training, both in terms of cost and personal care responsibilities. For this reason our training is conducted entirely online and is self-paced. We have ensured the quality and integrity of the training while simultaneously keeping it at a level of financial and time investment that is accessible. You have 4 months to complete the training. Scholarships are also available periodically, please ensure you are following us on Instagram and are on our mailing list to be notified of these.

        Rooted in local context

The South African Stress and Health Study found that the trauma exposure of the general population in present-day South Africa is approximately 78.3%. It is no surprise that South Africans and South African families are exposed to very high levels of trauma, that is higher than the global average. However, there is unfortunately limited research on trauma-sensitive yoga in the South African context. We are changing that! In this training, we are sensitive to the local context of our young clients, their families and local communities. We take international, world-class research and understand it through a local lens. This ensures effectiveness in our individual contexts, for our young clients and their families.

              FAQ’s:

What does this qualify me to do?

This is a first level training, to introduce anyone interested in working with children, teens and their families to trauma and trauma-sensitive yoga for this special population. The training will qualify you to host and facilitate trauma-sensitive yoga classes for children, teens and their families. Can I attend this training if I'm not a certified yoga teacher?

Abslutely! This training program is open to all that feel it could be their heart work.

Who is this training registered through?

This is our own, independent training. It is not registered through any external body. This is for a few different reasons but primarily because we have a specific vision for the training and where we believe this field is heading. It’s an exciting time!

Do you ever host this training in person?

We occasionally host in-person workshops – however these are introductory workshops. Our certification program trainings such as this are all hosted online. This is purely due to our mission to make the training accessible to those that don’t have the resources to travel, are based in very rural areas or don’t have the means to arrange childcare. As well as those that attend who have physical mobility limitations. This is a very important part of the social impact we are trying to create through our training programs and scholarship programs.

Will I be able to facilitate on your group therapy programs?

Yes! At this stage, we only allow facilitators trained in our methodology to facilitate on our group therapy programs. However, there is an application process per program and those shortlisted will be invited to facilitate.

Absolutely. You will be able to ask me questions at any stage of the training program (in our consulting sessions described above and on email should you prefer).

              Do you offer payment plans?

Absolutely. You can opt for a 12 month equal installment option via our partner mobicred (select it under Payfast at checkout), or a 2 – 3 month interest-free, equal installment plan with us (email me here to get started on this). NB: This does not apply to sale prices.

What does this qualify me to do?

The TSYFT-L1 is an introductory qualification, and while we have many facilitators that go on to facilitate this modality successfully with a level 1 training – we would advise our level 2 training for those looking to open their own private practice in trauma-sensitive yoga. You will receive the title  RTP-F (Return to Presence facilitator, trained in our methodology). Upon graduating from our TSYFT-L2 training you will receive the title RTP-AF (Return to Presence Advanced Facilitator, trained in our methodology) which will thoroughly prepare you to open your own private practice in trauma-sensitive yoga.
